ATA is led by Grandmaster Joseph Auman of Bay City. “Master" Auman founded ATA in 1983 with a vision of sharing with others his love of, and insights into, Tae Kwon Do. Beginning with an initial group of 54 students including both colored belts and black belts, the academy has grown to encompass thousands of students of all ages and walks of life.
The academy has continued to grow and evolve, adding satellite classes, intra-club tournaments, summer camps, plus academic classes in both Aikido and Tae Kwon-do at Delta College.
Traditional taekwon-do is studied, with heavy emphasis on technique. Much importance is also placed on the tenets of taekwon-do, which are courtesy, humility, integrity, indomitable spirit, perseverance and self control. The tenets are a constant, both in and out of class.
In 2017 Grand Master Auman earned his 9th Degree Black Belt in front of a Board of 81 Black Belts.
